How I started a concrete business in Brownsville

I learned concrete on crews for a big commercial company, pouring slabs, footings and parking lots, and that's where I picked up the habit of planning a pour before anyone backs up a truck. I started this business in 2017 to bring that same planning to homes and small businesses, and it's still how we run concrete work around Brownsville.

Homeowners call us for driveways, patios and steps. Builders and shop owners call for slabs, footings and lots. What I care about most is the work you won't see once it's done, the base, the forms and the timing, because that's what decides how your concrete holds up. Summers here are hot and humid, so when we pour matters as much as how. I'd rather tell you plainly what to expect, including that concrete can crack, than sell you a promise.

What you can expect from our crew

These are the things you'll notice when we do your driveway, patio or slab, from the first visit to the day you can use it.

  • The plan is set before the truck shows up

We dig out and pack the subgrade, the ground your slab sits on, and settle the forms, the joints and the pour time ahead of the pour, because a slab on raked dirt settles with the dirt. Our own crew does the work, with an experienced lead on site to run each pour.

  • I come out and write your estimate

The person you talk to is the person who plans the work, and the written estimate lists exactly what's in and what isn't, so you can line it up fairly against other quotes. Your price turns mostly on the size, thickness and base work your job needs, and you can ask for a visit through our contact page.

  • Straight talk about cracking and curing

Concrete can crack, so we cut control joints, shallow grooves that give it a line to crack along where we chose, instead of across the middle. We'll also tell you how long curing takes, the wait before you walk or drive on it while the concrete gains strength, so nobody rushes it.

Licenses, insurance and permits on concrete jobs

  • Fully licensed and insured.

Before work starts, I check which city or county office covers your address, and we help with the permit steps for our part of the job and get inspections on the calendar with you. In Brownsville the Building Inspections and Permitting Office issues permits and inspects on request, and when something's unclear we ask them instead of guessing.

  • Licensed trades for plumbing and electrical

Under state law and the city's rules, plumbing work has to be done by a licensed plumber and electrical work in a house by a licensed electrician. When lines run under a slab or through a footing, that part belongs to those trades, and we pour around their work.
